The Infection Control/Employee Health Department of Alleghany Memorial Hospital is dedicated to deliverance of safe patient care, safety of the patient care provider, and adherence to recommended practices by CDC, OSHA, JCAHO, etc. by adopting recommendations through policies as well as through education and surveillance.

Infection Control is given the responsibility of monitoring healthcare associated infections, both inpatient and surgical. The Infection Control Practitioner monitors for any trends, patterns of infection; provide support and education as needed for patients, families, employees, physicians, etc.; and assist in the delivery of safe and effective patient safety measures.

The Employee Health Nurse administers vaccines, immunizations such as the Hepatitis B vaccine, Influenza vaccine, Tetanus, and MMR per hospital policy and Employee Health recommendations from CDC and OSHA. The EH nurse monitors any employee illnesses for occupational exposures, occupational blood borne pathogen exposures, worker compensation issues, etc.
